Christopher R. Whipple is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Penn State Harrisburg. Dr. Whipple earned his Ph.D. in community psychology from DePaul University. As a community psychologist, he works to support marginalized communities by engaging with communities throughout the research process to ensure findings are useful and programs are sustainable. His research focuses on (1) exposure to community violence among African American adolescents, (2) developing and testing preventive interventions to reduce violence and suicide, and (3) reducing the impact of substance use disorder on individuals and communities. He is currently a co-investigator on two grants, one focusing on implementing and evaluating a culturally-relevant suicide prevention intervention for African American adolescents and the other focusing on reducing stigma associated with opioid use disorder.
